Don't let a broken toilet seat turn into a DIY headache. From hidden model numbers to measuring the pan correctly, our guide shows you exactly how to identify your Ideal Standard toilet seat and choose the right hinges for a perfect fit every time.

A loose or wobbling toilet seat is often caused by worn-out buffers underneath. These small rubber pads provide support and stability, preventing direct contact with the ceramic bowl. Over time, they flatten or fall off, leading to movement and discomfort.
Replacing toilet seat buffers is a quick and simple DIY fix that can restore stability in minutes without needing to replace the entire seat.

Most toilets just sit there doing their job for years. No fuss, no attention needed.
Then suddenly something small stops working. The flush gets weak, the seat feels loose, or water keeps running longer than it should. That’s usually when people start looking into Cersanit toilet fittings.
Start by Identifying Your Cersanit Toilet
Not every Cersanit toilet is built the same. Some are compact wall-mounted designs while others are the traditional floor-standing ones.
Seat shape, hinge spacing and internal mechanisms can change depending on the model.
If you can find the model marking on your Cersanit Toilet, it helps a lot. Sometimes it’s inside the cistern lid or tucked behind the seat hinges. Not always easy to spot though.
The Parts Inside the Cistern
Inside the cistern you’ll usually find a few working parts doing the important stuff.
There’s the inlet valve that fills the tank, the flush valve that releases the water, and the push button mechanism.

Buying a toilet seat sounds easy. Until it isn’t.
People order one, it arrives, and then… it doesn’t sit right. Too long, too short, or just feels odd. With a Pressalit Toilet Seat, shape matters more than most people think.
Pressalit makes seats for different toilet pan designs, not just one “standard” shape. So before you order, it’s worth slowing down for a minute and checking what you actually need.
Why Pressalit Toilet Seat Shape Is Important
Pressalit seats are designed to match the toilet pan closely. That’s a good thing. It means better comfort and less wobble. But it also means guessing the shape usually ends badly.
If the shape is wrong:
- The seat won’t sit flat
- Hinges won’t line up well
- The seat may slide or rock
- It just looks off, even if fitted tight
So yeah, shape first. Always.
The Main Pressalit Seat Shapes You’ll See
Most Pressalit Toilet Seat options fall into a few common shape types. Not fancy names, just practical ones.
Round or oval

Is your shower dripping? Or maybe the handle is so stiff you need two hands to turn it? It is super annoying. Most people call a plumber immediately. They see a bill for £150 just for showing up. But honestly, servicing a shower valve isn't rocket science. If you can build flat-pack furniture, you can probably change a cartridge.
You just need the right parts—specifically Hudson Reed Shower Spares—and a few basic tools. Before you start ripping tiles off the wall (please don't do that), here is the actual toolkit you need to get the job done.
The Magic Allen Key Set
First off, look at your shower handle. How is it held on? Usually, there is a tiny little "grub screw" hidden underneath or behind a small cap. You can't turn this with a normal screwdriver. You need a set of Allen keys (hex keys). If you lose this screw down the drain, you are in trouble. So, put the plug in the bath before you start. Trust me on this one.
A Decent Adjustable

A wobbly toilet seat is one of those things that seems small, but it gets annoying real fast. You sit down and it moves. Side to side. Sometimes even lifts a bit. If you’ve got a Rak Ceramics Toilet Seat, this can still happen, even though the seat itself is good quality.
The good part is, most wobble issues are easy to fix. You just need to know where to look.
Rak Ceramics Toilet Seat Wobble: Why It Happens
People often blame the seat, but usually the problem is underneath.
The most common reason is loose fixings. Over time, the bolts holding the seat loosen a little. Daily use, cleaning, moisture, all of it adds up.
Another reason is the hinges not sitting flat on the pan. Some toilet pans are slightly curved, and if the hinges don’t match that shape, the seat never feels solid.
Loose Hinges Are the Main Culprit
If your Rak Ceramics Toilet Seat wobbles, check the hinges first.
What usually goes wrong:
- Bolts have loosened
- Washers have flattened
- Plastic parts have worn down
- Metal fixings

You bought a new toilet seat, spent twenty minutes wrestling with the old one, and then realized… you can’t tighten the new bolts. Why? Because you can’t reach underneath the toilet.
This is the classic "Top Fix vs. Bottom Fix" nightmare. If you don't know the difference before you click 'buy', you are going to end up with a bag of parts you can't use. This is especially tricky with big brands. For example, finding the right Ideal Standard Toilet Seat Hinges requires knowing exactly how your toilet pan is built.
Here is the simple guide to figuring out which type you need so you don't waste your money.
The "Bottom Fix" (The Old School Way)
This is the standard hinge type for most traditional toilets.
- How to check: Stick your hand behind the toilet bowl and feel underneath the hinge holes. Can you feel a bolt coming through? Can you touch the wingnut?
- The Mechanism: A long bolt goes through the ceramic, and you tighten a plastic or metal nut from underneath.
- The Trap: If your toilet is fully

It’s 2 AM. The house is dead quiet. Suddenly, from the bathroom, you hear a hiss of water. Nobody is in there. Did someone pull the handle? Is your house haunted?
Before you call an exorcist, relax. You are likely experiencing the "Ghost Flush." It is one of the most common complaints with modern toilets, including Vitra models. While it sounds spooky, it’s actually just simple physics—and a sign that your cistern needs a little TLC.
What is Actually Happening?
Your toilet isn't flushing itself. It is refilling itself.
Here is the breakdown: Water is slowly leaking out of your cistern and into the toilet bowl. It’s usually so quiet you can't hear it. Over an hour or two, the water level in the tank drops just enough to lower the float. This triggers the fill valve to kick in for a few seconds to top it back up. That is the "hiss" or "whoosh" you hear in the middle of the night.
